About

In 2025 I ticked something off my bucket list: race cars.

And once you start racing, you immediately want to share it. I wanted a simple way to film my races so I could relive the action, review footage for driver coaching, and share the experience with friends and family.

Like most people, I started with a GoPro mounted to the car. But the footage never felt immersive, the cameras weren’t always reliable, and once strapped into the car I could never actually reach the thing to start or stop recording. I tried using a remote, but that quickly became just another item on the already massive pre-race checklist.

Then I discovered the Insta360 GO3S. Tiny, lightweight, and capable of recording incredible 4K footage. It was exactly what I was looking for... except there wasn’t a secure mounting solution suitable for racing. Insta360’s magnetic mounts are great for everyday use, but not something I trusted at race speeds. So I decided to develop my own.

After plenty of trial and error, I found the perfect location: the top of the helmet visor.

Chin mounts sat too low in a race car, mostly capturing the steering wheel instead of the track ahead. The in-helmet mount sold by Insta360 didn’t fit many racing helmets due to smaller visor openings, and the footage angle felt unnatural with an awkward “nose cam” perspective.

Mounting the camera on top of the visor solved everything.

It delivers a true line-of-sight POV that feels natural and immersive, without obstructing vision through the visor. In fact, most racing helmets already place a sun strip sticker across this section anyway. The position also makes the camera incredibly easy to reach while fully strapped into the car, and even helps when opening and closing the visor while wearing racing gloves.

VisorGO is designed to be semi-permanently attached to full-face racing helmet visors using genuine 3M VHB tape, the same high-strength adhesive trusted on action camera mounts worldwide.

The mount is carefully aligned to match the visor angle of most racing helmets, giving the most realistic footage possible. It works brilliantly in both open wheelers and tin tops alike, provided the visor is down while filming.

If you’re looking for a secure, race-ready way to mount your Insta360 GO3 or GO3S and capture truly immersive POV footage, welcome to VisorGO.
