FAQ

Does VisorGO come with a camera?

No. VisorGO is a mount designed to allow you to securely attach Insta360 and DJI action cameras to your helmet visor. The best place to purchase the Insta360 and DJI cameras is directly from Amazon.

Why would I use VisorGO instead of the Insta360 hat clip?

Great question. The majority of Insta360 mounts, such as the hat clip, rely on just a magnet to secure the camera to the mount. A small knock or bump and the camera could come flying from the mount. VisorGO use mechanical clips to securely hold the camera in place. The camera can only be removed from the mount when you press the release buttons.

Why mount your camera on the visor and not on the chin of the helmet?

To get true POV video you need to align the camera as close as possible to your eyes. Mounting on the chin of a helmet is not suitable for use in a car as its lower position is obstructed by the steering wheel/dash of the car. However if you mount the camera on the top of the visor it is closely aligned with your eyes so it see's what you see and the view is not obstructed by any part of vehicle.

❌ Chin mounted camera - Obstructed view
✅ Visor mounted camera - Clear line of sight

Also most chin mounts are usually very bulky and require adaptors and arms to position the camera in the correct position. This creates a potential snag hazard and adds significant weight to the helmet.

What helmets does VisorGO suit?

VisorGO was designed to work with full face helmets with visors but it also works on some open face helmets. The curvature of a helmet visor is fairly consistent between brands so VisorGO should fit on most helmets. We haven't come across a helmet that VisorGO doesn't suit yet. If you have concerns about fitment send us an email with photos and the brand/model of your helmet and we will take a look.

Can I run a helmet camera on track?

This depends entirely on which class you race in, the governing body and can even come down to the scrutineers opinion on the day. It's your responsibility to check with your governing body on their views of helmet mounted cameras before using VisorGO on track. There is a lot of legacy regarding the use of action cameras (GoPro's) on flimsy plastic mounts which tend to break and send a large heavy camera flying. Modern compact, light weight action camera like the Insta360 GO3S poses much less risk, especially when mounting them with VisorGO, but unfortunately governing bodies don't move as fast as modern technology changes.

The FIA don't allow them, but SCCA don't rule them out as long as it securely attached.

Can I run a helmet camera on road?

Whether a camera on a helmet is illegal depends on your local laws and how the camera is attached. In many places (like most US states and parts of Australia): It is legal as long as the mount does not damage or drill into the helmet shell.

Adhesive mounting (like VisorGO) is ideal however drilling holes or using harsh glues or epoxies can affect the structural integrity of the helmet, making it unsafe. Some countries or local jurisdictions ban helmet attachments entirely so always check with your local laws before using a helmet mounted camera.

Is it safe to have a camera mounted to my helmet?

In 2021 "Transport for NSW | Centre for Road Safety" tested the impact of helmet mounted cameras and comms devices. The report concluded that the addition of a camera or comms device attached to a helmet does not increase risk of head or neck injury, in some tests it actually reduced the force applied to head/neck by absorbing some of the impact. Read the report at the link below to help form your own opinion.

How is VisorGO attached to the visor?

VisorGO is attached to your helmets visor using the tried and tested 3M VHB tape, the same stuff that has been used to attach action camera mounts since GoPro's were invented. It bonds very well to plastic surfaces so is ideal for attaching to helmet visors. It can easily be removed without leaving any residue. Applying heat from a heat gun or hair dryer softens the adhesive and makes removal easier.

How do I install VisorGO on my helmet?

  1. Before you begin, ensure your helmet visor is clean. A quick clean with an isopropyl cleaner is recommended.
  2. Please back the backing strips from the 3M adhesive.
  3. Position the camera centrally on the visor/helmet and align the top lip of the VisorGO  with the top edge of your helmet visor.
  4. Once happy with the position, push down firmly for 15-30 seconds to ensure the 3M adhesive gets a good bond.

What is VisorGO made from?

VisorGO is currently manufactured from 3D printed plastic with stainless steel hardware and rare earth magnets. It is designed to survive the rigours of competitive wheel to wheel motorsport and off road action.

Where is VisorGO made?

VisorGO is proudly design and manufactured in Melbourne, Australia.

Do you make a mount for the Insta360 GO Ultra?

At this stage no. Due to the size of the GO Ultra (double the size of the GO 3/3S) we do not make a mount for it as we believe the smaller form factor of the GO3S is a better suited for helmet mounting.

Do you ship outside of Australia?

Yes, we ship to Asia, NZ, USA, UK and parts of Europe. If you we don't currently ship to your country shoot us an email and we'll see if we can assist.

If you have any questions which are not answered above please email us and we'll get back to you ASAP.
